Professor Arthur P. Miller is famous for his theatrical style, his quick wit, and his seemingly inexhaustible knowledge of civil procedure and copyright. As all litigators know, he is the MIller of Wright & MIller’s Federal Practice and Procedure, the leading treatise in federal civil procedure.  Professor Miller’s expertise spans all aspects of civil procedure, including class actions, frivolous lawsuits, and rulemaking.  He is also well known for his work on copyright and privacy issues. Professor Miller is one of a very select group of law professors whose names are known to non-lawyers, based on his appearance as the first on-air legal reporter for Good Morning America and as the host of Miller’s Court.
 
The Miller Symposium will address access to justice in civil law, focusing on the areas within which Professor Miller has worked throughout his career: rulemaking, class actions, media and the law, technology and privacy, legal pedagogy, and procedural policy. The Symposium will include a panel discussion involving some of the nation’s most distinguished scholars, judges, and practitioners. Panelists will examine Professor Miller’s influence in civil procedure and his contributions to the current civil law landscape. Panelists will also discuss current and future trends relating to access to the civil courts.
 
On April 12, the night before the Symposium, please join Professor Miller, Chief Judge Kozinski, Judge O’Scannlain, Justice Kistler and many others at the Oregon Federal Bar Association’s Spring Social, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Hatfield Courthouse, 1000 SW Third Ave. Portland, OR 97204
