In the context of the exhibit Lawyers without Rights – The Fate of Jewish Lawyers in Germany after 1933, lawyer Steven T. Wax will talk about current issues of concern in the Criminial Justice System, including an assessment of just and unjust laws, and the importance of the 6th Amendment.
Wax is a Federal Public Defender for the District of Oregon in Portland, Oregon. He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second and Ninth Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Wax earned a B.A. cum laude from Colgate University in 1970 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1974. He has been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1983 and is also a member of the New York State Bar. His most recent book was Kafka comes to America – FIghting for Justice in the War on Terror, A Public Defender’s Inside Account.
